Main Street is changing. Tom’s Treasures has closed after many years of providing second-hand goods at reasonable prices, and By Delaine gift shop on Main Street closed its doors this past weekend. By Delaine sold goods only made in America and had received The River Reporter’s Best Gift Shop award. These storefronts won’t go vacant. Main Street continues to attract those wishing to open new businesses, and both stores already have new shops planned, so watch as the new owners open the doors. Good luck to Claire, Judy and Doug as they move on.

The process of replacing the observation deck continues. The bid process has begun, and interested contractors will see the notice in our local papers. The replacement schedule is for the deck to be completed by summer of this year. A picture of the proposed project will become available shortly. Watch for it at the town hall, the library, Tusten Cup and the post office.

As the warmer weather approaches, you may consider a new routine of walking for exercise and improved health practices. A pleasant walk is the trail that begins at the Department of Environmental Conservation boat landing on DeMauro Lane, progressing to Main Street, on to the Flats and then returning to the boat landing, a 2.5-mile loop. Follow the signs and stop to read the historical markers along the way.

As a reminder, there are several meetings each month open to the public. The Town Board meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., and the zoning re-write committee meets every other Monday at 6:30 p.m., both in Town Hall. By attending these meetings you will keep informed of the many proceedings that affect our town. Another meeting you may be interested in attending is the Tusten Historical Society, the third Wednesday of the month in the library. You can become a member by picking up an application form on the back of their newsletter Tusten Roots, which can be obtained at the library. Lots to do. Have a good week.
