This year will be the year of construction on Main Street. As spring approaches, the Tusten Town Board prepares to launch the processes to replace the bridge, technically a culvert, over Little Lake Erie and replace the Main Street deck.

Deck plans have been submitted to the town board, and the next step is to initiate the bidding. The town board is expected to pass a motion this month to authorize the town clerk to advertise the bids for the deck project, and those contractors interested will have until April 7 to submit their bids. It is then expected the town board will award the contract at the April town board meeting, and construction should begin in the coming months.
It will be exciting to watch as a new deck unfolds. The plans provide for a modern deck complete with planters that will be approximately the same size as our current deck. One of the best parts is that it will be constructed with locally milled wood expected to last for years. Watch for a drawing of the plan on view at the library and/or post office.

A representative from the New York State Department of Transportation has scheduled the initial meetings to begin the process to replace the culvert at Little Lake Erie. There is a great deal of preliminary information that needs to be compiled before actual construction begins. However, it is expected this project will also take place in the warmer months of this year.

The Tusten Town Board has certainly made great progress this year to replace needed infrastructure and at the same time upgrade our electric needs to solar. These projects seem to take a long time, but this is our year: solar array, culvert and deck! Stay tuned, there may be more.
