Citizen calls for investigation of Sullivan West’s bid acceptance

Posted

I am deeply disturbed by the Sullivan West School board’s decision to sell our building to the firm from Florida that intends to turn that revered building into a alcohol/drug rehab center rather than to the local family with the intent to make it a community and business center that would have benefitted the entire town.

I am even more disturbed by the way they went about it. It is, in my opinion, unethical at best and perhaps even illegal. The board set a deadline for bids, which resulted in the Weidens making the best offer. The board decided at that point to delay the decision in order to allow for an extension for a sealed rebid. Apparently the offer that they wanted was not the one that won. One can only conjecture the reason for that. The fact, however, is that the Weiden’s bid was above the asking price and there was not a single legitimate reason not to accept that bid at that time.

The school district is hiding behind their fiduciary responsibility to the district. They, however, have a far greater responsibility, and that is to the different communities that they serve. They did a great disservice to the Narrowsburg community with this decision that has the potential to have a devastating effect on the town and on the property values of those taxpayers that live here.

I believe that there should be an investigation into this matter by the attorney general’s office in order to determine the underlining reason for refusing the Weiden offer on the date of the original deadline. I think that every person in our community should call and/or write.
