Seeds of destruction?

Posted

Thank you for the powerful and timely editorial (“Seeds of destruction?” March 13-19, 2014) about the dangers of genetically modified (GMO) crops and their corresponding herbicides/pesticides to our environment and food supplies.

Last Saturday, March 15, the Sullivan County Farm Network held a gathering at Morgan Outdoors in Livingston Manor where a lecture by Vandana Shiva was shown. Dr. Shiva is a world-renowned expert and activist on the damaging effects of GMOs to the world’s biosphere. After viewing her disturbing yet stimulating talk, there was a lively discussion on what could be done locally and globally to respond to this threat to our food, health and culture. The Sullivan County Farm Network will be holding more programs to promote awareness of this dire situation.

We hope that The River Reporter will print more editorials about how a handful of corporations have a stranglehold over our food supply and are making our environment toxic.
