On April 21, 1991, our daughter Karen lost her life when a large rock was thrown through the windshield of her car as she was driving on the New York State Thruway. The individual responsible, Jeffrey Damiano, was subsequently convicted of murder and is now serving a life sentence in state prison.

While nothing can ever repair the gap in our lives that was created by this horrible event, we will be eternally grateful that Michael Kavanagh was then District Attorney of Ulster County and personally prosecuted Damiano for this crime. Throughout the prosecution, he was sensitive to our concerns and responded to our fears as to how the criminal justice system would respond to this awful criminal act.

Mike is now a judge, and it comes as no surprise to those of us who know him that he received the highest rating possible from the Independent Judicial Election Commissions—highly qualified—when he announced he would seek re-election as a Supreme Court judge. Simply stated, he was a terrific district attorney and he is now an outstanding judge.

Most importantly, Mike is a wonderful man who, throughout his years of public service, has demonstrated a lifelong concern to the needs of his community. We urge everyone to support Michael Kavanagh for re-election as a Supreme Court judge and join our family in voting for him this November.
