Lumberland loses a shining star

May 24, 2012

This week, Sullivan County and in particular, the Town of Lumberland, lost a shining star: Greg Bodnaruik. Greg, along with his wife Cheri and their children Tomara and Adeline, followed in the tradition of his parents, Walter and Tina: tirelessly working towards the betterment of our community. His father, being a founder of the Lumberland planning board, can be proud of his son’s accomplishments. He was on the planning board, the zoning rewrite committee and the environmental council, just to name a few of his contributions.

He ran for councilman twice (a lost opportunity for Lumberland), attempting to enhance our environment. During the last few years, he tirelessly worked on the zoning rewrite. One can only imagine the countless and thankless hours he studied and worked to help plan for a better future.

I had the privilege of discussing his visions on occasion (he had the grace and civility to show his reasons for his goals). I can assure all residents, he did his work for the love of his neighbors. After the zoning rewrite, I had the chance of meeting him at the government center after a learning session on enhancing his knowledge of community benefits and planning. Boy, was he committed.

We lost a shining star. Let’s ensure his legacy, by continuing his work. Greg, I pray you send us a person who can walk a quarter of a mile in your shoes. You left us with an indelible mark. God bless you and your family, and thank you.
