In her inspiring introduction to the Holiday Gift Guide (November 24 issue) Mary Greene ends with “Take a moment to give thanks for all you have, and for all you are sure to receive during this special season.” Indeed.

I would like to add: give thanks for all you give, for what each one of you/us gives from our own caring and talent. And yes, gratefully, we have what to give.

Whether you give by helping a neighbor in need or in bringing a greater awareness to this community, the impulse to reach out and extend oneself in whatever ways we can or are perhaps uniquely our own needs to be honored. “Neglect not the Gift that is within you.” (First Timothy, the Bible)

So thank you, Mary Greene and the small, dedicated staff of writers and producers of The River Reporter that give in such a big way by not only informing us, but by expanding our consciousness in the process. It is from your gift, your talent and intelligence, that we are given such a gem of newspaper, both in design and content.

And dear reader, might I be so bold as to suggest giving a subscription?

Just look at this last issue and the ways in which both readers and local businesses/advertisers are served.

This is truly a community newspaper and a perfect and inexpensive gift for new neighbors or folks that may be purchasing their copy from a newsstand, or those that are reading it on line. This is a gift worth giving—and I think there’s a half-price special on now!

Have a blessed holiday.
