Lundgren a natural leader

I am a member of the Delaware Democratic Club supporting Steve Lundgren for supervisor. As an active member of the club, Steve shared with us the detailed five-page letter of comments and concerns that he submitted to the Delaware River Basin Commission last February. The letter impressed us with its open-mindedness, and the clarity of the presentation.

When searching for candidates for the 2011 election, we approached Steve to run for supervisor, knowing that his background included working as a project manager for architects and contractors. He decided to run upon learning that the only candidate proposed for the Democratic line position was also running as a Republican, and had stated, at the February 22 hearing at the DRBC, that “the time for onerous regulations should stop” and that “we should embrace gas drilling.” Unlike his opponent, Lundgren is concerned that the Town of Delaware is not yet completely prepared for the impact of under-regulated and under-enforced gas drilling.

Since being selected at the Democratic caucus, Steve has stepped up in a way that has surpassed our expectations. He has immersed himself in all of the issues facing our town, not just the need to prepare for the impact of gas drilling. The impact of the current recession on the sagging local economy, the recent two percent property tax cap, rising costs, the proposed Road Use and Protection law—these issues and others have received his attention and, having learned how Steve works, we know will be carefully considered once he is elected.

Steve emphasizes keeping an open mind. His command at campaign organization meetings and his insistence that we conduct a civil campaign leaves little doubt about his ability to provide the leadership the Town of Delaware needs.

In short, the Democrats have picked a natural leader to head their ticket.
