Remembrance and service

September 22, 2011

I vividly remember December 7, 1941 and how it affected our country. September 11, 2001 was another day with different results as my day of remembrance began with the Monticello Motor Club again shattering the quiet as they have done also on the last two Memorial Days. A call to a Thompson town board member who would “make a call” and a meeting with the town supervisor who “would make a call” resulted in less noise in the afternoon, but it continued past 5 p.m. I also spoke with Aileen Gunther at the Monticello Fire Department memorial service about this continuing situation.

Perhaps the people who need excitement and loud noise should consider service to their country. Drive a Humvee, fly a helicopter or drive a tank. Get the training for self-discipline and respect for others that those of us who served have for the victims of September 11, 2001, and all who have served.
