Don’t forget the members
Thank you for featuring Sandy Long’s article “A conservation leader reemerges” on the front page of the August 25 issue.
Long, as usual, painted an engaging story about the Delaware Highlands Conservancy’s recent accreditation with the National Land Trust Alliance. The application process rewarded countless hours of diligent effort by staff, board members and volunteers throughout the year 2010.
However, I would like to add to her credits recognition of our members who have sustained our work throughout our 17 years of existence. From our incorporation in 1994, it has been the membership’s generosity and encouragement that kept us going. And I also wish to acknowledge the 65 caring landowners who we have helped to conserve their special lands.
I am proud and humbled reviewing our growth from a handful of people learning about how to conserve the environmental riches we all share, to knowing that over 13,000 acres of precious lands within the Upper Delaware River watershed region will now remain scenic habitat far into the future. Thank you all for making it possible.
