Wrong on the Holbert Quarry

Your editorial regarding the Holbert Blue Stone Quarry is a tragic example of misinformation circulated with a claim of authority, and under the guise of fact.

You may have read the River Management Plan (RMP), but you clearly are not familiar with the topography, or the intent of the statute. You are not versed in the law, or sadly, the facts involving the Holbert application.

There is no water from this site flowing to the river or any of its tributaries. If there was, surely there would be some evidence over the last 15 years. Before you quote the RMP (“ridgetop to ridgetop”), please cross the river with a GPS and let everyone know how high you must go before you see the Holbert quarry.

If you, or the Upper Delaware Council (UDC), is truly concerned about the taxpayers’ expense, as opposed to an attempt to incite taxpayer opposition, the best way to avoid dragging this through the courts is to objectively examine the facts before deciding on legal action. An objective analysis will not only save taxpayer money, but will also save the UDC wasted legal fees. Oh, that’s also taxpayer money.

To most readers, the writer’s reference to the “Wild Wild West” and to Holbert as one of the “toughest gunmen” will invoke the images the writer intended to invoke—lawlessness and fear. But to the contrary, the thought everyone should get is one of propaganda under the protection of editorial license.

Your editorial writer may contact me if you wish to discuss this. However, don’t respond until you have crossed the river with a GPS.
