Zoning for signs

Just to set the record straight relative to the Lang sign versus the sign identifying The River Reporter: 93 Erie Avenue is in the Downtown Business District, while the Lang building is in the General Resident District.

A zoning realignment was completed quite a few years ago that extended the Downtown Business District to include the Tinway apartments, Narrowsburg Lumber, The Village Pub, The River Reporter and The Yard Sale Store. The reason for doing this was to bring these properties into a more compliant zoning district rather than leaving them as grandfathered non-compliant properties in the General Residential District.

Section 5.4.2 of the Special Supplementary Regulations of the Town of Tusten Zoning Law, subtitled “Additional Permitted Signs,” allows the total area of a sign in all zoning districts other than scenic river and general residential, to be as large as two square feet for each lineal foot of building frontage.

Content aside, it seems as if there really are some things in which size matters.
