Sager letter to constituents and friends

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me this past year in my unsuccessful bid for the 42nd state senate seat. I am proud of my efforts and the important issues I brought to the forefront. More importantly, I am proud that I finally followed my heart and embraced the Democratic Party and its principles.

I am also proud of the many accomplishments I have achieved during my four years as the youngest member of the Sullivan County Legislature. I have worked tirelessly for this county and my constituents as a reformer, and took on issues that most people ran from. I have always tried to do what I truly thought were in the best interests of Sullivan County.

It is with a deep sense of both satisfaction and sadness that I am making the decision not to seek re-election for the District 1 Legislative seat. I have given all that I can at this time and it is now time for me to focus solely on my wife, my sons and my business. They deserve far more of me than I have been able to give. We are looking forward to a more private and simple existence. I know I will certainly miss this job, the many friends I have made and even some adversaries. I will certainly miss the many employees of Sullivan County who have seen me as someone they could reach out to when no one else would listen. Many of you have touched my heart in profound ways.

I will proudly continue to support the Democratic Party of Sullivan County. I encourage more people from my generation and younger to begin to take an interest in public service. The only way things can change for the better is with honest, eager people taking the reigns of government. I wish you all the best.
