I’m sorry to have to tell you we lost another Cochecton resident, Joe Meyer, on March 27. Joe was a resident of Cochecton, born and lived here all his life. In 1952, he married his wife, Maria Niessen. Joe had a brother Eugene who married Maria’s sister Mildred. Brothers married sisters. Joe was a dairy farmer; he also worked as a butcher at Narrowsburg Peck’s and Eddy’s in Jeffersonville. When Tommy and I first moved up to Cochecton Center, we went to the community center for a pancake breakfast. Tommy said, “These are the best sausages I ever had.” He was told, I think by Doug Heinle, “That’s because Joe Meyer made them.” May Joe rest in peace, and prayers for his family.

On Friday, I went down to Queens, and I knew I had to stop and see Fr. Bill and let him know about Dolores Manaseri  and Joe Meyer. He will pray for them and their families. Fr. Bill is holding his own and is doing OK.
Heinle’s General Store is hosting a New York State Certified Hand Gun Safety Course on April 13 at 2 p.m. at the store, 6 Old County Rd., Cochecton Center (across from the white church). This course is a requirement to obtain a pistol permit. The class will be taught by Leo Cecil. The cost is  $40, and it takes four hours. Food is available for purchase. For more information and to register give Mike a call at 845/252-3354 (DELI).

Matson’s Bar and Grill will be closed on April 6-18 for renovations. They are putting in a ramp for wheelchair and handicap access. There will be new driveways and a big new outdoor deck.

The Cochecton Men’s Club will hold its annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. at the Cochecton ball field. Bring your own basket. All ages welcome.

March 31 was the last day to pay your town taxes. On April 5, I turn my books over to the Sullivan County Treasurer Nancy Buck. After two weeks, they start collecting. If you have any questions you can call 845/807-0200 or visit www.taxlookup.net for all your tax information. Once I close out my books, www.taxlookup.net is no longer updated.

Keep smiling and have a great week. Email leeniebeans@citlink.net or call 845/252-3568 if you have news.
