LACKAWAXEN — Township officials last week jumped into the Internet in approving payment for monthly "web site, domain" charges and payment for a consultant to create and maintain a township site.. For those unfamiliar with the Internet, a web site means that information and advertisements on a Lackawaxen sponsored Internet location will be available to computer users locally and worldwide. Lackawaxen is said to be only the second Pike township to maintain its own internet web site. The supervisors approved a $99 per month charge for the site with a major internet provider, PSI, which provides sites for the White House and NASA among others. Local graphic designer Michele Hansen said she will create the site for $1,500 and maintain it on a volunteer basis. Supervisor Brian Stuart called the township decision to become involved "a significant step forward," for Lackawaxen. The web site will include maps, history, tourism, zoning information and permit applications as well as local advertising. In addition to a one-time, set up fee for the ads, Hansen said ad cost will be based on the $99 monthly fee needed to operate the site and more advertisers will mean lower costs for all. Lackawaxen’s still develop-ing site will be found at www. lackawaxen.org by the end of this month, Hansen said. |
