    Canoeing on the River

Four canoes flip in Wayne County Classic

HONESDALE — Sunny skies and ideal temperatures brought record numbers of participants and spectators for the Annual Wayne County Canoe Classic hosted by Honesdale area Jaycee’s. 70-plus canoes entered the eight-mile long event that follows the Lackawaxen River from the Wayne County Fairgrounds to White Mills. According to Harrison Balthaser, president of the Welcome Dive Team whose members aided canoers, "the most challenging spot was the first few bends and ‘dead man’s curve’ —in all, only four canoes overturned."
