JOHN H. BREWER LIVINGSTON MANOR John H. Brewer of Livingston Manor, a retired painter at the Liberty Lumber Company and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, February 2 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 76. Son of the late Irving J. and Alice Jeanes Brewer, he was born March 10, 1922, in Hardin County, TE. He was a World War II Veteran of the US Army. Survivors include four sons, David of Liberty, Gerald of Queens, Ronald of Connecticut and James of Rhode Island; two daughters, Vicki Mather and Cindy Theabuat, both of Connecticut; five stepsons, Charles Kleingardner of Syracuse, Allie Kleingardner and Lewis Kleingardner, both of Livingston Manor, Randy Kleingardner of Liberty and Gary Kleingardner; three stepdaughters, Linda Nietzel of White Sulphur Springs, Peggy Baner of Syracuse and Kelly Marcus of Virginia; 35 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Cremation was private. Services and burial will be made at a later date in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. Memorial contributions may be made to the Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to the Livingston Manor Fire Department, both in Livingston Manor, NY 12758. HARRY BUJAR GLEN SPEY Harry Bujar of Glen Spey, a retired employee of United Technologies Corp. of Hartford, CT and a 20-year area resident, died Monday, February 1 at home. He was 77. Son of the late Vasyl and Maria Tymcaysayn Bujar, he was born January 1, 1922, in the Ukraine. He was a member of St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey. Survivors include a son, Bohdan of Hamilton Township, NJ; and a daughter, Irene Moses of Concord, VT. A Liturgy Mass was held at St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey. The Rev. Oleska Kostyk officiated. Burial was in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church Cemetery in Trenton, NJ. BEVERLY CASHMORE CHEEKTOWAGA Beverly Cashmore of Cheektowaga, an employee at the Town Hall of Clarence for several years, formerly of Rileyville, PA, died Tuesday, January 26 in Cheektowaga. She was 71. Daughter of the late Merritt and Esther Brill Vail, she was born July 17, 1927, in Rileyville. She was a graduate of Class of 1944, Damascus High School, and Wayne Commercial School. Survivors include her husband, Donald A. Cashmore; a daughter, Karen M. McGee of Cheektowaga; two sons, Timothy C. of Buffalo and Daniel B. of Waltman, MA; three sisters, Beulah Schweighofer and Marilyn LaTourette, both of Honesdale, PA, and Vera Schirrmacher of Ithaca; a brother, Carryl Vail of Stockton, MD; a sister-in-law, Lynita Vail of Honesdale; three grandchildren, Amy McGee, Eleanor and Andrew Cashmore; an uncle Earle Vail of Gaithersburg, MD; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Milton Vail. The funeral was held in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Clarence. JOHN CHURLEY MARGATE, FL John Churley of Margate, FL, a retired maintenance worker at the Sullivan County Correctional Facility in Woodbourne, died Friday, January 8 at Northwest Regional Medical Center in Margate. He was 72. Son of the late Stephen and Mary Hlinka Churley, he was born March 27, 1926, in Brooklyn. He was a World War II Veteran of the US Navy; a member of the Sgt. Andrew Brucher Post #5499, Veterans of Foreign Wars in White Lake; a member of the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department; the Sullivan County Fire Police Association; and the Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Survivors include three sons, John of Scottsdale, AR, Anthony of Sebring, FL, and Daniel of White Lake; two daughters, Stehanie Grogin of Coral Springs, FL and Cynthia of Smallwood; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services were held at Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake. The Rev. David Coon officiated. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel. LYNN L. CONEY SR. KAUNEONGA LAKE Lynn Lester Coney Sr. of Kauneonga Lake, a retired school bus driver for the Monticello Central School District and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, February 3 at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 68. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Coney, he was born September 24, 1930, in Monticello. He was a Korean War Army Veteran. He attended the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Vasco Coney, at home; a son, Lynn L. Jr. of Las Vegas, NE; three daughters, Debby Rivera and Juliann Maldonade, both of Erie, PA and Loreen Eichhorn of Kauneonga Lake; two brothers, Donald of Lake Como, FL, and Anthony "Junior" of Montpelier, VA; a sister, Helen McBride of Shalotte, NC; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Veronica DeSimone; and a sister, Adelia Bush. Cremation took place at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope. Burial will be in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty at a later date. Dayton of Livingston Manor, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, February 4 at home. She was 86. Daughter of Walter W. and Mary Shiflett Lewis, she was born August 7, 1912, in White Sulphur Springs. She was the widow of Joseph Dayton. She was a member of the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church; Daughters of the American Revolution; and longtime Cub Scout Leader of Pack 105. Survivors include two daughters, Mary and Nancy Madison, both of Livingston Manor; two sons, Joseph III of Jeffersonville and Jesse of Westport; two sisters, Mildred Cooper of Youngsville and Polly Ivenz of Easton, PA; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kathryn Loizeaux officiated. Burial will be in Grahamsville Rural Cemetery in the spring. BERT FELDMAN MONGAUP VALLEY Bert Feldman of Mongaup Valley, senior editor at The River Reporter, freelance writer, Sullivan County Community College adjunct professor and longtime area resident, died Tuesday, February 2 in Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. He was 76. Son of the late Theodore and Sadie Rabinowitz Feldman, he was born December 29, 1922, in the Bronx. He was a World War II US Army Veteran; a board member of Congregation Agudas Achim in Livingston Manor; member of Liberty Lodge F&AM #521; J.W.V.; D.A.V.; former commissioner of the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department; member of the Sullivan County Shields; longtime member of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance; NYS Historical Society; NYS Archaeological Society; and volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of America. He was a former Bethel town historian and is known worldwide for his knowledge of Sullivan County history and the history of the Woodstock music festival. Survivors include his wife, Anne Bullowa Feldman, at home; two daughters, Sandra G. of Saugerties and Wendy S. Brinn of Liberty; a niece, Barbara Moss of New York City; a nephew, Andrew Moss of Albuquerque, NM; and three grandchildren, Jacob Estrada of Florida and Jessica and Adam Brinn of Liberty. A memorial service was held in Congregation Agudas Achim in Livingston Manor. MARGARET HICKEY GLEN SPEY Margaret Hickey of Mohican Lake, Glen Spey, died Sunday, January 31. She was 65. She was the widow of George Hickey. Survivors include two sons, Joe and Tommy; two daughters, Joanie Viera and Peggy Clifford; three brothers, Tom, Jimmy and Charlie; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Phonse Hickey. Burial was in the Lumberland Cemetery in Glen Spey. ZOFIA JAKUBOWSKI STATESVILLE, NC Zofia Jakubowski of Statesville, NC, formerly of Garfield, NJ, died Monday, January 25 in Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. She was 76. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Szeurczyk, she was born November 18, 1922, in Poland. Survivors include her husband, Alexander Jakubowski; two sons, Jesse of Eldred and Adam of Statesville; a daughter, Donna of Statesville; and ten grandchildren. A funeral Mass was held in St. Anthony's R.C. Church in Yulan. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Yulan, NY. DOROTHEA METZGER YULAN Dorothea Metzger of Yulan, a retired office manager and a 48-year area resident, died Tuesday, February 2 at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, PA. She was 89. Daughter of the late Frederick and Marie Jergensen Hornkohl, she was born March 13, 1909, in Brooklyn. She was a member of the Tusten Senior Citizens in Narrowsburg. Survivors include her husband, Walter Metzger, at home, and nieces and nephews. Services were held at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville. Cremation took place at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott. MARY NEBZYDOSKI PLEASANT MOUNT Mary S. Nebzydoski of Pleasant Mount, a retired registered nurse at Read Hospital in Hancock and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, January 30 at the home of her son, Thomas. She was 80. Daughter of the late John and Pelahia Bodnar Stasko, she was born March 23, 1918, in Johnson City. She was the widow of Henry J. Nebzydoski. She was a member of St. James Church in Pleasant Mount, its Altar and Rosary Society, and was a catechism teacher for over 30 years; she was a graduate of Johnson City High School in Johnson City; and was a graduate of Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, class of 1941. She and her husband bought a dairy farm in 1948 and she was involved in the farm for over 40 years. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of Pleasant Mount Township Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include six sons, Dr. John of Oneida, NY, Dr. Henry of Pleasant Mount, Francis (Mike) of Pleasant Mount, Dr. Joseph of Jeffersonville, Dr. Andrew of Honesdale and Thomas of Pleasant Mount; four daughters, Mary Kelly of Baltimore, MD, Kathleen Painter of Hampstead, MD, Margaret (Peg) Tomazic of Forest City, and Bernadette Franceski of Bethlehem; a brother, Dr. Andrew Stasko of Cumberland, MD; a sister, Helen Stasko of Brooklyn; 31 grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Michael, Stephen, John, Joseph and Nicholas; and three sisters, Anna, Katherine and Irene. A funeral Mass was offered at St. James Church in Pleasant Mount. The Rev. Richard Beck officiated. Burial was in St. James Cemetery in Pleasant Mount. VICTORIA POPOLILLO CALLICOON Victoria Popolillo of Callicoon, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Thursday, February 4 at the Grover Hermann Division of Community General Hospital. She was 74. Daughter of the late Tony and Philamena Farinco Corigliano, she was born October 18, 1924, in Newark, NJ. She was a member of the Hankins Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband, John Popolillo, at home; two sons, John Jr. of Callicoon, and Michael of Lake Huntington; two brothers, Frank Corigliano of Union, NJ and Guy Corigliano of Hillside, NJ; two sisters, Diane Caravelle of Union, NJ and Christina Peronick of Piscataway, NJ; four grandchildren, Michael and Brian of Lake Huntington, and Kristen and Danielle of Canastota; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon. Pastor Bob Paquet officiated. "Winnie" Rode of Ferndale, a former teacher's aide with Sullivan County ARC and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, February 2 in Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 71. Daughter of the late Peter and Florence Cromie Mootz, she was born January 9, 1928, in the Town of Callicoon Survivors include three sons, Barry Mootz of Kemmerer, WY, Terry of Mongaup Valley and Randy of Ferndale; two daughters, Lori of Liberty and Janet of Delhi; two brothers, Russell Mootz Sr. of Roscoe and Francis "Lavern" Cromie of Roscoe; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were held at the Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe. The Rev. James R. Fedlam officiated. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe in the spring. Schwalb, MD of Liberty, a physician for 39 years, died Tuesday, February 2 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City of leukemia. He was 67. Son of Ann Schwalb Black and the late Samuel Schwalb, he was born July 9, 1931, in Brooklyn. He was a 1956 graduate of Kenyon College in Ohio and graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1960 with the highest honor, Alpha Omega Alpha. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine at Community General Hospital in Harris where he was instrumental in developing the intensive care and coronary care units. He was also an attending physician in internal medicine at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown and an assistant professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Schwalb, at home; three sons, Dr. David of Youngsville, Dr. Richard of Jeffersonville and Jonathan of Albany; his mother of White Sulphur Springs; and three sisters, Maddie Cole, Phyllis Luts and Francine Phillips. BARBARA MANNING SMALL NARROWSBURG Barbara Manning Small of Narrowsburg and the Bronx, a technical trainer and evaluator for the Girl Scouts of USA National Office, died Thursday, January 28 in Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. She was 61. Daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Manning, she was born June 9, 1937, in New York City. She was the widow of Eugene Small. She was a member of the New York City Church of Christ. She received her bachelor degree from the College of New Rochelle and her Master of Arts degree from Columbia University Teachers College. Survivors include three daughters, Chyrise Taylor of Narrowsburg, Yvonne Goodson of Mount Vernon, and Annette Butler of Brooklyn. She was predeceased by a sister, Jessie and a brother, Samuel. MURIEL STOLL NARROWSBURG Muriel Stoll of Narrowsburg, a retired clerical administrator for the Corporation Counsel of the City of New York in Manhattan, died Thursday, January 28 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, PA. She was 90. Daughter of the late Adolph and Dorothea Kloppenburg Stoll, she was born in Brooklyn. She was a graduate of Girls' High School in Brooklyn. She attended St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the order of the Eastern Star, St. Tammany Chapter. She was an active presence at local political gatherings and was known for her letters-to-the-editor to this paper and her colorful interventions at local town meetings. She is survived by a niece, Hazel D. Bachmeier of Brooklyn, and was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Stoll and a sister, Hazel Bachmeier. Services were held at the Bryant Funeral Home in Honesdale. The Rev. John R. Warren, pastor of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Honesdale, officiated. Burial was in Lava Cemetery, Lava.
