Tri-Valley’s Jakki Pugh poses with her coach John Tenbus after becoming the first female in school history to score 1,000 points. She scored 24 in her team’s 60-30 win over Chester to reach the milestone. She is the 75th girl in Section 9 history to achieve that storied total. Top on the all-time Section 9 girls scoring list is 1988 Eldred grad Tammi Reiss, who ended her high school career with 2, 871 points.

Answering the call

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NYThis week, winter sports starts its inexorable ascent toward championships as Sullivan County indoor track athletes tested their mettle at the Sullivan County Championships at Sullivan County Community College on February 9. Runners, jumpers and throwers head to West Point for the OCIAA championship meets as the girls compete on February 11 and the boys vie against each other on February 13.
The Section 9 wrestling championships are also this week. Division I wrestlers, including Monticello and Port Jervis, vie at Monroe-Woodbury on February 11 and 12. Top wrestlers from Eldred/Fallsburg, Liberty and Tri-Valley advance in the Division II tilts at Onteora High School on February 10.
