PAWLING, NYExcelsior, the New York State motto that means ever upward, strongly befits runners who strive continuously to up their prior performances with faster times. The motto suits cross-country runners even more so as their sojourns often require ascents of steep hills, such as the one found on the course at Lakeside Park at this years 61st running of the New York State Cross-Country Championships.
