Residents rally boards

ELDRED AND GLEN SPEY, NY—Two neighboring town boards were asked to toughen up protections for residents and natural resources in the towns of Highland and Lumberland at their monthly meetings recently.

In Highland, on November 9, Barryville resident Sally Rowe thanked the board for its actions related to natural gas, including letters to the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) and to President Obama, comments to the EPA and showing of the film “Gasland.”

Scranton’s Mercy Hospital for sale

SCRANTON, PA—“Scranton has too many hospitals,” said Joshua Nemoff, a consultant who has managed hundreds of hospital mergers and acquisitions.

News that Mercy Hospital is seeking a buyer has raised concerns among some that the Catholic hospital may no longer be Catholic, moving from a non-profit venture to a for-profit one.

Scranton’s Mercy Hospital was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1917.

Principal wants job back, name cleared

GLEN SPEY, NY—For nearly a decade, Kathryn Ryan has been a certified administrator at George Ross Mackenzie (GRM) Elementary School in Glen Spey. Ryan currently serves as GRM’s principal and has been tenured since 2003.
