DOROTHY MARGARET CRANE

Dorothy Margaret Crane of Tafton, PA and formerly of Mt. Pocono, PA died Monday, August 30, 2010 at home. She was 85.

Mrs. Crane was born April 11, 1925 in Patterson, NJ, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ruth (Kearny) Dougherty.

She was a waitress and loved to play bingo.

She is survived by daughters Dorothy E. Bell of Rockaway, NJ, Janet Cabel of Tafton, PA, Bonnie Erm of Sussex, NJ and Randy Philhower of Shohola, PA; and son David C. Crane of Paupacken Lakes, PA; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, David William Crane; daughter Ruthann Seland; and grandson William D. Bell.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Sept. 4th, at B.V.M. Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley, PA by Rev. Richard W. Beck.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ledgedale, PA.


ROBERTA LOUISE CRANE

Roberta Louise Crane of Vilas, NC, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, after a three-year battle with liver cancer. She was 66.

Roberta, known as Bertie, was the daughter of Estelle Meads Crane and grew up in Mountain Lakes, NJ. She moved to Newark in 1972, where she restored a brownstone in the historic district, was a photographer for the Newark Public Information Office and later director of City Without Walls: An Urban Artists Collective. In 1986, she and her husband began a 10-year venture as the proprietors of the Tyler Hill Bed & Breakfast in Tyler Hill, PA. After moving to North Carolina in 2000, she worked as a health care technician and retired four years ago. She leaves behind her husband of 37 years, Wayne Braffman; son Christopher Pfeifer; grandsons Adam Pfeifer and Bryan Heiselman of Blairstown, NJ; two nieces; sisters-in-law Marsha Abraham, Lorna Gruber and Heidi Golightly; and a host of friends.

GRACE HUBERT

Grace Hubert, 92, of Youngsville, NY, a dairy farmer and homemaker and lifetime resident of the area, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at home. She was 92.

The daughter of the late William and Alice Wilcox Freidenstine, she was born January 1, 1918 in Fremont Center, NY. She was the widow of Fred Hubert.

She was a member of the United Reformed Church of Youngsville. The family would like to thank Doug and Linda Immoor and the Abplanalp, Hauser and Rhodes families for looking out for Grace and enabling her to remain at home.

Survivors include nieces and nephews June Ellmauer, Paul Hubert and Harold Freidenstine, all of Youngsville, William Freidenstine of Fremont Center, Ruth Kilroy of Florida and many others; brother Theodore Freidenstine of Callicoon, NY; and sisters-in-law Eva Corigliano and Johanna Mancinni.

In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by brother Lawrence Freidenstine; and sister Esther Hubert.

Funeral services were on Wednesday, September 8 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY.

Burial will be in Youngsville Presbyterian Cemetery, Youngsville.

ZEVRIX HYDE

Zevrix Hyde of Damascus Township, PA died August 30, 2010. He was 23 months old.

Born in Scranton, PA on September 24, 2008, he was the son of Bridget Colleen Hyde and Ashton Mitchel Hannel.

Zevrix is survived by his father; his mother and her friend Nick Wilcox; brother Dominick Scott; grandparents Robert and Maria Hyde, Sandra Wolf, and Bruce and Jackie Wilcox; and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 3 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., Callicoon, NY, with Pastor Philip Hunt officiating.

Burial was at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.


GLORIA ROSE KRAUSE

Gloria Rose Krause of Narrowsburg, NY died Monday, September 6, 2010 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 87.

The daughter of the late Karl F. and Rose Bremeirer Runge, she was born on October 30, 1922 in Milwaukee, WI. She was married for 50 years to George T. Krause Jr., who survives.

Gloria was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Monticello, NY and taught music in Sullivan County for 35 years. She served on the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance board for 30 years, including 10 as president. She was a founding member of the WSP Library, the Delaware Valley Opera and the Ill Winds Chamber Ensemble, and conducted choruses in the area. She was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association.

A family statement reads: “Gloria was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a big part of the community and will be greatly missed.”

She is also survived by son George H. Krause and wife Elizabeth of Cornwall, NY; twin brother Glenn Runge and wife Beverly of St. Mary’s, PA; granddaughters Jessica and Samantha Krause; and nephews, nieces and cousins.

Friends may call Thursday, September 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main Street, Narrowsburg. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at the home with the Rev. Donald Beck officiating. Following the service, friends are invited to gather at the Gloria Krause Recital Hall at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg.

FRANCES J. OLVER

Frances J. Olver of Matamoras, PA passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Milford Senior Care Health Care Facility, Westfall Township. She was 86.

She was born in the Town of Rockland, NY on August 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Jasper and Martha Miller Brown. Fran married William “Red” Olver Jr., who predeceased her in 1994.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Matamoras, PA.

Fran is survived by daughters Jane Storm and husband Robert of Stroudsburg, PA, Holly Hite and husband Harold of Millrift, PA and Connie Ast and husband Jeff of Sparrowbush, NY; sons Thomas Olver of Columbia, NJ and Russell Olver and wife Cheryl of Milford; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, William Olver Jr.; sister Helen Skinner; twin brother Floyd Brown and brother Donald Brown.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 1 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home. Interment was at Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras.
