School supplies for at-risk kids

By FRITZ MAYER

BETHEL WOODS, NY — A group of colorful characters in costume descended on Bethel Woods Center for the Arts to help with an initiative to get school supplies into the hands of at-risk children in Sullivan County. The characters from the hit television program aimed at preschoolers Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! joined the effort by Bethel Woods, Shoprite Supermarkets and other local businesses.

The school supplies that were collected were turned over to Sullivan County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), which currently serves 136 kids in the county. CASA assists the family courts in making crucial decisions affecting children who have been abused and neglected. These children, some in foster care, have limited resources to purchase school supplies, and the goal of this drive was to help them start the school year off with the tools they need to make the most of their education.
