NARROWSBURG, NY — Days gone past will be revived this weekend in Narrowsburg, with a series of events centered on the theme of local history.

History buffs can start off the weekend early on Friday, September 3 at Fort Delaware, where the theme will be “All things Colonial.” You’ll have an opportunity to churn your own butter and witness 18th-century cooking and bread making in a colonial oven. The loom weaver will be busy in the barn finishing up the last rag rugs for the season, which will be on sale at the gift shop. The Fort’s long weekend will continue through Monday.

On Saturday, the Tusten Historical Society will step up, with a presentation of panels of pictures and text depicting the boarding houses of Tusten Township, on view at the town hall on Bridge St. from 11 pm to 5 pm. At 3 pm, there will be a talent show—anything goes, a song, a skit, a dance, whatever you do best. Call Grace at 570/729-8223 or Jane at 845/252-3864 to participate. Also at the town hall, Amy and Adam Miller of Early Bird Cookery will have available for purchase their homemade ice cream for a “make-your-own ice cream sundae.”

Saturday will conclude at 8 pm with a performance by “Fiddlin’ Around,” with Steve Jacobi and friends, at the Tusten Theater. Tickets cost $8.

On Sunday, September 5, from 8 am to 12:30 pm, there will be an old-fashioned community pancake breakfast served by Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce, at the town hall. At 1 pm, a historic church tour will leave by bus from the library parking lot on Bridge St. The three churches in Narrowsburg will be visited, and the tour will continue to Tusten’s Old Settlement Church, where there will be light refreshments and a concert. Tickets cost $10, and can be purchased at Roasters or the library.

This project is made possible in part with funds from the 2010 Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered in Sullivan County by Delaware Valley Arts alliance.
