Cemetery wall restored

TOWN OF LUMBERLAND, NY — Pete Wilkowski, left, Joe Swingle and Jesse Gavalla work on repairing the dry-laid stone wall surrounding the Paye Cemetery on High Road in the Town of Lumberland. The small cemetery contains 33 graves, dating from 1853. According to town supervisor Nadia Rajsz, “The retaining wall was getting worse as the years went by. Before it totally fell apart and, in turn, took the cemetery with it, the town board agreed to fix the problem. Out of respect for our deceased, we needed to repair the wall and preserve the site.” Information about the cemetery is available at the Lumberland Town Hall in Glen Spey.
