MARION OLIVA CORTESE
Marion Oliva Cortese of Narrowsburg, NY, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away at Sloan-Kettering, New York, NY on Saturday, August 14, 2010. She was 80.
She was born in Narrowsburg, NY on August 9, 1930 to the late Frank and Gladys Dexheimer Neumeyer.
Marion was the widow of Vincent Cortese, who had passed away in 2005.
Marion had retired as a bookkeeper for Landers River Trips in Narrowsburg. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg.
A family statement reads: Marion was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had strength and goodness and would help anyone in need, spreading happiness and joy. She liked to needlepoint and garden and loved her pets. Her strength was to fight for what she believed in and she fought her illness and hung onto life. That fight will greatly be missed.
Marion is survived by daughters Gladys Oliva of Beacon, NY and Gemma Oliva of New York City; son Felice Oliva of Narrowsburg; stepdaughter Marie Dietrich and husband Dennis of Smallwood, NY; grandchildren Elizabeth and Felice Oliva; one great granddaughter; and two step granddaughters; and her first husband, Fred Oliva of Nevada.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 19 from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg. Rev. William Scully O.F.M. will officiate.

ROBERT L. DUGAN SR
Mr. Robert L. Dugan Sr., formerly of Monticello, NY, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2010 in Winter Park, FL.
Mr. Dugan was a carpenter by trade and lived in Orlando, FL since 1997.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 50 years, Barbara J. Dugan of Orlando, FL; brothers Ernie and Earl, both of Hancock, NY; sisters Debbie of Barryville, NY, Christina of Hornell, NY, Caroline of Warwick, NY; children Robert Jr. and wife Elaine of Monticello, Tracy and husband Carlos of Orlando, Theresa of Orlando, Donald and wife Melva of Norcross, GA, Shannon and husband Jamie of Orlando and Shawn of Orlando; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by children Thomas, Floyd, Joe, Richard, Stella, and Dorothy.
CHARLOTTE M. JAMES
Charlotte Myrtie DeReamer James passed away July 31, 2010 in Presbyterian Hospital, Plano, TX. She was 81.
Charlotte was born October 15, 1928 in Honesdale, PA to the late Charles and Evelyn DeReamer. She graduated from Hawley High School, where she met Donald L. James. They were married September 3, 1949 in Hawley, PA.
Charlotte will be deeply missed and always loved and cherished by her family. Her greatest joy was time spent with them, especially Sunday afternoons and dinners when the family gathered around. Charlotte loved reading, music, and traveling to visit her sisters, children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; children Evelyn Nellie and husband George Schwenk, Jeffrey Donald and wife Jamey James and Kimberly Ann and husband Douglas Phillips; grandchildren Kellee (Schwenk) Skaggs, George C. Schwenk, Jana (James) McKinney, Christopher Phillips, Donald J. James, Kathryn (James) Reeves, Jennifer Phillips and Samuel Phillips; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass celebrating Charlottes life was held Saturday, August 7 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Denton, TX.

NICHOLAS T. MILLER
Nicholas T. Miller of Damascus Township, PA died unexpectedly on Friday, August 13, 2010 at home. He was 26.
Born on November 28, 1983 in Carbondale, he was the son of David M. Miller and the former Tracie Keesler of Damascus Township.
Nick was a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School, and was employed by Bunnel Waste Removal.
Nick was a good dad who loved his children more than life itself.
He is also survived by children Noah Miller, Zachary Miller, Destani Winovich and Rayne Winovich, all of Waymart, PA; brothers David Miller of Hawley, PA and Billy Miller of Damascus, PA; and maternal grandparents James and Shirley Lewis of Damascus.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
ARTHUR F. STEMPERT JR
Arthur F. Stempert Jr. of Port Jervis, NY, passed on August 13, 2010, from complications to pneumonia at ORMC Horton Campus in Middletown, NY. He was 77.
He was born May 9, 1933 in Port Jervis, the son of the late Arthur F. Stempert Sr. and the late Margaret Marion Stempert.
Art worked and retired as a water treatment operator for the Port Jervis Water Department. Before that, he worked with John Innella & Sons, Co., in Sparrowbush, NY.
He served in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Korean War. He was a member of the Tri-State Naval Ship VFW Post #7241; a member of the CSEA Union; a member of the Port Jervis Elks Lodge #645; president of the New Mutual Hunting Club for numerous years; a member and past captain of the Tri-State Hose Co. #6 in Port Jervis; honored as Grand Marshall for the Port Jervis Volunteer Firemans Day Parade; and served as assistant NYS Environmental Protective Fire Warden.
Art enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, baking, camping and traveling. He was a gracious giver of his time to others with his varied talents.
Survivors include sons Arthur A. Stempert of New Milford, CT and Kenneth D. Stempert of Summerville, SC; daughters Elizabeth A. Cohen and husband David of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Sherry A. West and husband, Matthew of Stamford, CT and Amy J. Stempert of Shohola, PA; brothers James E. Stempert of Port Jervis and Robert W. Stempert and wife Jaclyn of Yellville, AR; grandchildren Eric T. Stempert and Kimberly M.L. Stempert, both of North Charleston, SC and Matthew Matty R. West of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters Jean Keyes, Joan Pavlich and Mary Jane Innella Appel.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 17 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., Port Jervis. Burial was in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis.

DENIS PRENDERGAST
Denis Prendergast of Narrowsburg, NY passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010. He was 63.
He was the son of the late Moira and James Prendergast.
He was the father of Sean and Denis and brother of the late Jim Prendergast and Moira Hankins. He is survived by siblings Pat Prendergast, Eileen Falk, Tom Prendergast and Doreen Kraus.
A funeral mass was held at St Francis Xavier Church in Narrowsburg on Monday, July 19.
VINCENT T. WHITMORE
Vincent T. Whitmore died August 5, 2010 at his home in Cary, North Carolina. He was 89.
He was born April 26, 1921 to Bessie and Thomas Whitmore. He was a retired Callicoon, NY postal clerk and Long Eddy, NY mail carrier.
He is survived by his wife Vesta of Cary, NC; sons Howard Whitmore and wife Beverly of Callicoon, Thomas Whitmore and wife Karen of Damascus, PA.; Berwyn Williams of Campbell Hall and Robert Williams and wife Helena of Raleigh, NC; daughters Christine Whitmore of Hortonville, NY and Lori (Long) Whitmore of Loch Sheldrake, NY; grandchildren Erica Boyd and husband Vincent of Cochecton, NY, Austin Whitmore and wife Abbie of Mebane, NC, Noelle Whitmore of Raleigh, NC, Nathaniel Whitmore, Cortney Whitmore and fiancé Earl Shane Kinney of Damascus, PA, Joshua and Brian Long, both of Callicoon, Jennifer Williams of Campbell Hall, Cory Williams and wife Karen of Middletown, NY Erin Marcum and husband Brad of Apex, NC and Beth Hoffman and husband Lynn of Pittsboro, NC; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by grandson Jason Long; and daughter-in-law Elaine Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22 at the Conklin Hill, PA church.
DOMINICK DOOTSIE ZACCAGNINO
Dominick Dootsie Zaccagnino of Beach Lake, PA died at home Friday, August 13. His wife, Elizabeth Anne Karpitski Zaccagnino, preceded him in death on December 1, 2006. He was 76.
Born on June 18, 1934 in Dunmore, PA, he was the son of Pete and Bertha Zaccagnino.
He attended Dunmore schools and was a retired independent truck driver. He recently received an award for 50 years of service in the trucking industry from the American Truck Historical Society. During retirement, he restored antique Brockway trucks and was involved in local truck clubs.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving are children Tamara Rosati of Moosic, PA, MaryBeth Stark of Pleasant Mount, PA, Dominick John of Hawley, PA and James of Newtown, PA; grandchildren Rachel, Nicholas, Jessica, Ryan, Sierra and Shaina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Donato, William, and James; and sister Catherine Polish.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernards R.C. Church, Beach Lake.
