Flea market bugs residents

Special use permit overlooked

By FRITZ MAYER

SMALLWOOD, NY—According to manager Stephen Altman, “This year there has been an explosion of vendors at the flea market” on Route 17B at the Pine Grove entrance to Smallwood. That’s due to eviction of the vendors from the former flea market at the parking lot at Mighty M Gaming in Monticello.

All that new activity has led Altman to cut down about an acre of trees and expand the parking area. At the Bethel town meeting on August 11, Altman turned out to explain that the expanded market is good for the town because the vendors offer fresh produce along with many other items, and the market brings business into the town.
