Re: Narrowsburg native/Homestead alum
Hey Devin. Thanks for writing to me. Your e-mail was very touching and it was great to hear from you. I have this hazy memory of carpooling together to the Homestead School in your mothers car; we tossed a small red ball back and forth in the backseat. That was probably 20 years ago—its been at least five since weve seen each other, probably more.
So much has changed in my life that I wouldnt know exactly how to begin. Id imagine that its about the same for you.
Where in Europe have you been traveling?
It was crazy to hear that you are stationed in Afghanistan with the Air Force. How long have you been there? Its hard for me to imagine what that must be like.

Paintings and puppets—displays that amaze
Clearly, I have been away from the Loft and the Alliance galleries ( artsalliancesite.org ) for too long, since in my absence, working artists have flourished. Fortunately, I found time in my hectic schedule to make it to the galleries in Narrowsburg, NY for their latest opening.
Candy Spilner ( spilner-rubin.com ) was in the house, and graciously gave me a few moments of her time as I gazed in awe at her three dimensional, larger-than-life paintings, constructed entirely out of corrugated cardboard, which were being exhibited in conjunction with a collection of collages that she created while out of the country.

In recent weeks, the worst floods in Pakistans history killed at least 1,600 people and created 15 million refugees, temperatures in the Middle East hit all-time record highs, devastating wildfires in Russia affected the price of wheat worldwide, and an iceberg more than four times the size of Manhattan broke off from Greenland.
And three tornadoes touched down in Pike and Wayne Counties.
If youre not alarmed, youre not paying attention.
