CAROL JOAN ADRIAN

Carol Joan Adrian of Liberty, NY passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. She was 81.

Born on August 23, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York and baptized Caroline Johanna Geiser, Carol was the daughter of Christopher and Charlotte Geiser.

Carol attended a one-room schoolhouse in Bethel, NY and graduated from Monticello High School at 16. She was a passionate and talented interior decorator, seamstress and gardener; an avid crossword puzzle and Scrabble enthusiast. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Liberty and the Revonah-Lincoln Chapter # 443 Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald, of Liberty; daughters Jennifer Fallat and husband Michael of Youngsville, NY and Lisa Adrian-Davies of Jeffersonville; and grandchildren Thomas Jr., Caralynn and Matthew of Jeffersonville, NY.

She was predeceased by son Donald C. Adrian Jr., and sister Ellen Geiser.

Funeral services were held at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, Liberty on Saturday, August 7 with the Rev. Paul A. Hagendorn officiating. Burial followed at Liberty Cemetery, Liberty.

DOROTHY C. ALTEMIER

Dorothy C. Altemier of Blooming Grove, PA, died peacefully Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Nancy. She was 90.

She was the widow of John Altemier, who passed away in 2004.

Mrs. Altemier was born October 18, 1919 in Hawley, PA and was the daughter of the late Grant and Charlotte (Blackmore) Huff. She attended school in Hawley and the Cole Memorial Baptist Church.

Dorothy worked as a seamstress for Laura Jane Mill in Honesdale and other mills in the area for over 50 years. She was a loving and giving mother, grandmother and sister who enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She was also very fond of her dog Cassie.

She is survived by daughters Patricia Kline of Honesdale, PA and Nancy and Mark Boley of Newfoundland, PA; son Christopher and Tammy Altemier of Honesdale; sister Betty Friermuth of Beach Lake, PA; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by brother Grant Huff; sister Mildred Jezercak; and son-in-law Gary Kline.

A funeral service was held Saturday, August 7 at Teeters’ East Chapel, Hawley, with Rev. Stanley M. Eskra officiating.

Burial was in Green Gates Cemetery in Hawley.


RAY T. BRANNING

Ray T. Branning of Beach Lake, PA, a retired dairy farmer and a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. He was 83.

The son of the late Phillip F. and Pearl Aeppli Branning, he was born May 15, 1927 in Beach Lake.

Ray served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He worked for Rudy Reers Gas Co., Narrowsburg Feed and Grain, and was a Berlin Township supervisor for 12 years.

He was married for 61 years to Margaret J. Dexter Branning, who survives.

A family statement reads: “He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved the outdoors, animals, farming and hunting. He was a big part of the family. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Roger Branning and wife Rose, Rodney Branning and wife Glenna, Keith Branning and wife Becky, Pearl Imburgio and husband John and Mark Branning and companion Diana; grandchildren Rodney Branning and wife Nicole, Phillip Branning and wife Colleen, Brett Branning and wife Shari, Samantha Branning, Bryan Branning and wife Caitlin, Eric Branning, Mark Branning, Rachelle Windhorn, Robert Imburgio and Mandy Imburgio; three great grandchildren; and many cousins.

Ray is predeceased by sons Ray and Phillip; and grandson Travis.

A funeral service was held Saturday, August 7 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY with the Rev. Lane Jones officiating.

Burial was in the Glen Cove Cemetery, Narrowsburg.

ROSALIE SARNICOLA GENOVESE

Rosalie A. “Roe” Sarnicola Genovese of Mongaup Valley, NY died Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 64.

The daughter of Angela Taverna Spero and the late Daniel Spero, she was born July 7, 1946 in Brooklyn.

Roe was a retired executive secretary for the Sullivan County Division of Family Services and worked part-time for RSS. She served on the board for the YMCA and was a member of the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by husband John Gaetano “Jack” Genovese at home; daughter Dina O’Connor of Monticello; son Daniel Sarnicola of Mongaup Valley; stepson John Thomas Genovese of Bridgewater, NJ; brother James Spero of Morristown, NJ; granddaughters Jami and Taylor Welch; grandsons Brandon and Anthony Sarnicola, Thomas O’Connor, and Oliver Genovese; several nieces and nephews; co-workers and friends, and a large extended family.

In addition to her father, she is predeceased by her husband Joseph Sarnicola; stepson Steven Genovese; and granddaughter Danielle Rosalie Sarnicola.

Her funeral mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Monticello. Burial followed at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

HELEN K. LIEFERT

Helen K. Liefert of Yulan, NY passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 95.

Born March 18, 1915 in Shohola, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Guenther and Frieda J. Meyer Guenther.

Helen was the former co-owner of the Melody Bar & Grill in Barryville, NY.

She married John V. Liefert, who predeceased her.

Helen is survived by daughters Barbara Murphy and husband Pete of Seven Lakes, NC and Helen Quick of Otisville, NY; sisters Edith Humphries of Yulan and Viola Chancey of Wayne, NJ; granddaughters Patty, Kelly and Cindy; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

DIETER PFINGST

Dieter Pfingst of Monroe, NY passed away at Schervier Pavilion in Warwick, NY on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. He was 73.

Son of the late Louis and Norma Hoverman Pfingst, he was born in Park Ridge, NJ on July 27, 1937.

Dieter was a retired florist and owner of Flowers by Dieter in Nanuet, NY. He was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River, member and past president of the Nanuet Rotary Club, former member of the Nanuet Fire Dept., member of Rockland County Retail Florist Assn., Field Service Representative and Director for NY Unit of Teleflora, and veteran of the Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen “Renie” Edis Pfingst at home; sons Marc E. Pfingst and wife Eileen of Warwick, NY, Stephen D. Pfingst and wife Karan of Salisbury, MA; daughter Kerry A. Pfingst and husband, Russell Dodson of West Orange, NJ; brothers Gunther Pfingst and wife Maryanne of Beach Lake, PA, Hubert Pfingst and wife Pauline of Essex Junction, VT; grandchildren Eric, Ryan, Katie, J.D., Madeline, Liam and Olivia; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 7 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, Monroe, NY, with Pastor Donald Lee officiating. Interment followed in the Orange County Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY.

DR. ISIDOR ‘IZ’ YASGUR

Dr. Isidor Yasgur, who was raised in and loved Sullivan County, died in Florida on August 3, 2010. He was 84.

He was born on May 21, 1926 in Monticello, NY to Sam and Bella Yasgur. He was the younger brother of Max Yasgur.

He graduated from the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 1949. From his Jeffersonville, NY veterinary practice, he served farmers and other animal caretakers in the county. In 1954 he obtained his pilot’s license. In 1960 he moved to Mamaroneck, NY where he practiced until 1987. His clients, both human and animal, loved “Doc.”

Dr. Yasgur is survived by Eileen, his wife of 63 years; his son Stevan, wife Cherilyn and grandchildren Valerie and Eric, daughter Carrie, husband Jason and grandchild Ethan; son David, wife Wendy and grandchildren Jenna, Rachel and Maxwell, and son Andrew.

Private services will be held in Florida and his ashes will be returned to Sullivan County.


HELEN YOBUCK

Helen YoBuck of Hawley, PA died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. She was 89.

Mrs. YoBuck was born April 25, 1921, in Bronx, NY. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie Jenkins, in 1959 and her second husband, Edward YoBuck, in 2009.

Formerly of Bronx and Bloomingburg, NY, she was a retired housekeeping supervisor. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, bowling, gardening and housecleaning. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Susan and Frank Grassi of Shohola, PA; grandsons Frank and John Grassi; granddaughter Cassandra Grassi; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by a sister, Alice Jenkins.

The funeral mass was on Monday, August 9, at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley, with Rev. Richard W. Beck officiating. Burial was in Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
