JOSEPHINE T. GERRITY

Josephine T. Gerrity, a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA. She was 88.

She was born in New York City on August 4, 1921 to the late Nicholas and Josephine Sullivan Walsh.

Josephine was a devoted member of St. Francis Xavier RC Church, Narrowsburg, NY. She was a retired secretary to the church and St. Francis Cemetery and was a member of the Tusten Ambulance Service. For many years she sold Avon products.

She was loved dearly by her family and many friends. She will be truly missed.

She is survived by her son, William R. Gerrity and wife Margaret of Mancungie, PA; grandchildren Meg Brandt, William Laraia and Martina Shields; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, William E. Gerrity, who passed away in 1985; daughter Carol Lynn Laraia; and five brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 7 at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church with Rev. William Scully officiating. Christian burial was made in St. Francis Cemetery.

JOHNNIE MAE HAMMOND

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Hammond of Sparrowbush, NY passed away at St. Joseph’s Place in Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY on Tuesday, July 6, 2010. She was 75 years old.

She was born November 10, 1934 in Johnston County, NC, the daughter of the late John and the late Thelma Raines Rhodes.

Johnnie worked as a tumor registrar and later as a medical records clerk prior to her retirement from Mercy Community Hospital, which is now Bon Secours.

She is survived by her husband, LTC USA RET John Hammond at home; daughter Debra Thompson and granddaughter Meagan Thompson; sister Rose Downing; and brother Bill Rhodes.

She was predeceased by sisters Sue Montgomery, Joan Goodwin and Betty Easterling.

Funeral services will be private. Her remains have been donated to the New York Medical College for medical education and research.

VALENTINO KOSENKOV

Valentino Kosenkov of Shohola, PA, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York City. He was 58.

He was born in Caracas, Venezuela on December 2, 1951, the son of the late Mitrofan and Emilia Herbko Kosenkov.

Val was a conductor with New Jersey Transit in Port Jervis, NY. He enjoyed boating and was a member of the Newburgh Yacht Club.

He is survived by his son, Mikhail Kosenkov of Shohola; and daughters Marya Maher and husband Dan of Rockaway, NJ and Kristyne Kosenkov of Shohola.

A Divine Liturgy will be offered Thursday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Glen Spey, NY. Rev. Nestor Kowall will officiate. Interment will take place in Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.


MURIEL S. MUELLER

Muriel S. Mueller of Lackawaxen, PA, formerly of Inverness, FL, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, Pa. She was 90.

The daughter of the late Barthalomew and Margaret (Hamm) Bowcock she was born August 9, 1919 in Staten Island, NY. She was married to John A. Mueller who predeceased her on May 1, 1998.

She was a retired telephone operator for Willowbrook State School, Staten Island, and later a volunteer for Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness, FL.

Survivors include her daughter Dorothy Dexter of Lackawaxen, PA; son Ronald Mueller of Florida City, FL; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by brother Bartholomew Bowcock; and sister Ethel Fremer.

Funeral services were held at Good Shepherd & St. John the Evangelist Church, Milford, PA on Saturday July 10 with Rev. William McGinty officiating.

ROBERT J. PALMORE

Robert J. Palmore of Cochecton, NY, a dedicated husband and father, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in Cochecton, NY. He was 44.

The son of the late Wade M. Palmore Jr. and Gloria X. Palmore, he was born June 12, 1966 in New York City. He was committed to his lifelong mate, the late Cynthia Parker.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Michelle Parker of Cochecton; stepsons Robert Ohlerich of Cochecton and Nicholas Ohlerich of Cortland Manor, NY brother Wade M. Palmore III of Hampton, VA; and sister Susan Palmore of Kansas City, MO.

A graveside service celebrating Robert’s life was held Tuesday, July 13 at East Cochecton Cemetery.

Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.


RICHARD A. PUCKETT JR

Richard A. Puckett, Jr., a longtime resident of the area, died unexpectedly on Monday, July 5, 2010 in Liberty, NY. He was 25.

The son of Richard A. Puckett Sr. and Patricia Lossmann Sweet, he was born September 20, 1984 in Long Island, NY.

Richard lived life to the fullest and was known for his big heart, as his many friends and family can attest to.

He is survived by his mother, Patricia Sweet and husband George of Mongaup Valley, NY; father Richard A. Puckett Sr. and wife JoAnn of Clyde, NC; brother Dylan A. Puckett of Mongaup Valley; maternal grandparents Audrey and Frank Lossmann; paternal grandmother Barbara Yoe; step-grandmothers Letha Sweet and Bessie Conklin; companion Courtney Kashan; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and many area friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 7 at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, Monticello, NY with Rev. David Coon officiating.

NATHAN C. RABIN

Nathan C. Rabin of Honesdale, PA, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in the Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart, PA. He is survived by his wife, Joan Clark.

Born in Bronx, NY, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Nathan was a fine arts photographer in New York City and a member of the Upper Delaware Unitarian Fellowship, Beach Lake. PA.

He is survived by a son, Steven Rabin of Sunnyvale, CA.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.


MICHAEL D. RIVARDO

Michael D. Rivardo of Honesdale, PA returned home peacefully to his Father at home on July 3, 2010. He was 52.

Michael was born in New York City, the son of the late Franco and Edna Lynch Rivardo. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Honesdale.

His wife, the former Mary Ambrosino, and sons Daniel, Justin, and Michael, were with him as he courageously fought his battle with cancer. He is survived by brothers Daniel Rivardo of Jackson Heights, NY, Richard Rivardo of Staten Island and David Rivardo of Nazareth, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

The Rivardo family extends to all of the wonderful old and new friends a profound “thank you” for every thought, gesture, support and kindness, and for the love and prayers for Mike.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, July 9 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Honesdale. Interment was made at the Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale.

VIRGINIA JOY SAUSCHUCK

Virginia Joy “Ginny” Sauschuck of Matamoras, PA died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. She was 67.

She was born July 1, 1943 in Richmond Hill, NY, the daughter of the late Robert and the late Ruth Cooperman Sloane.

Ginny married Robert M. Sauschuck 43 years ago in Matamoras. She worked in the Delaware Valley Elementary School as a teacher’s assistant. She was a member of the Delaware Valley Elementary School PTA, the Pennsylvania Teachers Association and the Keystone Club.

A family statement reads: “Ginny was a wonderful loving wife, mother and grandmother with the patience of a saint who always saw the good in every person. She loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, American Indian culture and spending time with her family. Ginny adored children and surrounded herself with her children and grandchildren.”

Survivors include her husband at home; son Robert J. Sauschuck and wife Cheryl of Sparrowbush, NY; daughters Robin Sauschuck of Matamoras, Brenda Butler and husband Mark of Stanton, NJ; son Thomas M. Sauschuck of Matamoras; grandchildren Kaila Sauschuck, Jack Butler and Brooke Butler; aunt Thelma Greenwood and her children; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Cremation was held at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA. A visitation will be held at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Thursday, July 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

MIKULAS STRENK

Mr. Mikulas Strenk of Glen Spey, NY died Friday, July 9, 2010, at his home. He was 82.

He was born January 24, 1928 in Czechoslovakia, the son of the late John and the late Anna Klochak Strenk.

He was a member of St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey. He worked as a machinist for several years at Superior Electric in Connecticut, where he retired.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lydia Strenk at home; sons Vladimir Strenk and wife Eva of Slovakia, and Michal Strenk of Thomaston, CT; daughter Lydia M. Noga and husband Stanley of Kissimmee, FL; sister Anna Ivanova of Slovakia; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

A Panachyda Service was held at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc. in Port Jervis on Tuesday, July 13. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 14, with a Liturgy Mass in St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Glen Spey, with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating. Burial was made at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey, NY.
