A trio of eaglets in trouble
This is the time of year when the many eagle nests in the region show a great deal of activity as the eaglets in the nest engage in much wing flapping to prepare for that first flight from the nest, or fledging. The young eagles, which were the size of a hand when they hatched in April, now weight eight to 10 pounds and sport a six-and-a-half-foot wingspan. The six-foot diameter nests that were so roomy earlier are now pretty tight quarters in a nest that has two or more siblings, as each flails its wings to strengthen itself for that first flight.
