River glass
School is out. No more spelling tests or clothes to iron. My daughter Lily has brought home the valuable contents of her desk—a salvage of stubby pencils and broken crayons. Were done with my son Sams sixth-grade solar system project, the class picnics and the restless excitement of the last day.
The summer starts with all that time to fill—for kids that is—who arent planning to paint the porch and who dont need any time at all to adjust to being underfoot.
As always the summer starts with places to go and plenty to do—like graduation parties and fireworks. Theres swimming lessons at the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon, the July 4th parade in Lordville—and then for us there is river glass hunting.

Of all the things Ive lost…
I miss my mind the most. Just as I was preparing to zip down to Florida, once again, to help my Mom recuperate from hip surgery, she fell ill. Pneumonia had set in and mom was rushed to the hospital with labored breathing. The surgery has been put on the back burner for now as she gathers her strength.
Being of little to no use to her while shes under her wonderful team of doctors care in Delray Beach, I meditated, prayed and busied my mind with other things, so as not to ruminate and/or feel sorry for myself or anyone else. One foot in front of the other, one day at a time.
