This February 28 image shows a New York nest as the male eagle surveys over three feet of snow in its nest after a snowstorm. Three days before the storm, this pair was showing signs that they would incubate soon, so there were concerns with this pair.

Matching wits with the elements

Judging by some of the recent outside temperatures around the region recently, it appears that the warm weather is here to stay for a while, and evidence of nature’s replenishment season abound. Courting and breeding creatures can be seen and heard everywhere.

To the increasing numbers of bald eagles in the region, the courtship and breeding cycle has already been in progress since winter. Some of the territorial pairs of eagles on the main stem of the Delaware River started to incubate eggs in late February.

Have a special brunch in a secret garden

HAWLEY, PA—There will be a special brunch offered to participants on the Wayne County Historical Society’s Secret Garden Tour on Sunday, June 13 at the home of Tom Colbert and Alan Kehoe, whose garden is shown here, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Twelve guests will be welcomed on a first-come first-served basis. Kehoe is a well-known caterer both in New York City and Wayne County and has designed a menu specially for the event.

4-H driving clinic to be held

HONESDALE, PA — Samea Baker, an American Driving Society Judge and Technical Delegate in both Pleasure Driving and Combined Driving, will lead a 4-H driving clinic on Thursday, June 24 at the Wayne County Lake Equestrian Center. The clinic will begin at 5:00 p.m. and conclude at dark. Clinic participants will learn how to prepare, harness and drive pleasure horses and ponies, or minis, with emphasis on proper turnout and safety techniques for handling and driving.
