We are not alone…

Usually associated with the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, this phrase has been ringing in my head all weekend, after I experienced Steven Dietz’ play ‘Lonely Planet’, now playing at the Liberty Free Theatre ( libertyfreetheatre.org ) located at 109 S. Main Street in Liberty, NY.

Originally produced by the Northlight Theatre in Evanston, IL, ‘Planet’ is considered his most widely performed play, and Dietz received the PENN U.S.A. Award in drama in recognition of this work.

What’s that I see?

A friend pointed to the sky and insisted that something nefarious was going on. I dismissed his concerns and looked down. But then I looked up, and on days of record-breaking heat in April and May, I saw long, thin clouds criss-crossing the troposphere. Instead of disappearing like contrails, these strange clouds expanded throughout the day to create a haze that dimmed the sun.

I needed some cold hard facts from reputable sources to explain what I was seeing.

My mom’s graduation

“Are you going to be able to come to my graduation?” my mother asked a few months ago.

My mom went back to school four years ago (the same year that I graduated) to get her Masters of Divinity at the Starr King School of Ministry in Berkeley, CA. She spent a year living there as a full-time student, and the last three taking intersession, summer and online classes.

“Definitely,” I said. “Wouldn’t miss it.”

And then with a snap of a finger, it is the day I am supposed to leave (time passes so quickly these days) and I’m running around in the rain trying to make it back to my apartment and then to the airport.
