Fifty years of expressionism

HONESDALE, NY — The Hanson Gallery at 1037 Main Street will present an exhibit of the works of Ioannis “Yanni” Glykokokalos, opening on May 8 with an artist’s reception from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The exhibit is a retrospective on 50 years of abstract expressionism and figurative painting.

Born in Lesbos, Greece in 1937, Glykokokalos was exposed to the musical and visual mysticism of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and rich Greek culture and traditions. His color fields, constructions, geometric minimalism and figurative work reflect the abstract expressionism of the New York School. He has earned many awards and has had solo as well as group shows in galleries and museums throughout the U.S., South America and Europe. In Northeast Pennsylvania, one of his major impacts has been his creation of the Wayne County Arts Alliance 10 years ago, along with his wife Pauline.
