Long live cooties

You’ve got cooties. But don’t worry. They’re good for you, and they’re especially beneficial for kids. The Hygiene Hypothesis, first postulated in 1989 and subsequently affirmed by numerous studies, states that young children who are not regularly exposed to a variety of bacteria, infectious agents and parasites are more susceptible to allergies. Exposure to pathogens strengthens our body’s ability to fight infection. “Germs”* create a balanced and regulated immune system.

Los Angeles

Outside the front gate of the studio, the guard asks for our identification. As I reach for my wallet, there’s a feeling in the pit of my stomach that I’m somehow not supposed to be here, that the guard is going to return my ID in a moment, shaking his head slowly, apologetically.

“Sorry, sir,” he is about to say.

But he doesn’t, instead he waves us all though.

I’m with Henry, Rel, and Nev in Los Angeles on the Universal lot and we’re here for a marketing meeting for Catfish. I haven’t been to LA in five years and in that time have never really had a reason to.

It’s sort of new to me that I do now.
