The first be-in

My young friend Julio and I were watching something on PBS about Earth Day. ”I was at the first be-in,” I told him. “Bean?” he queried. “Be-in,” I articulated. “What’s a be-in?” Julio wondered aloud, already knowing it would be something esoteric from my past life as a ‘60s priestess.

The first Easter Be-In in Central Park was in 1967. It wasn’t advertised or talked up on Fox News. In those days, Fox News was Channel 5 news, and they only reported things that had already happened—unlike the agenda news channels of today that promote expected news events so they can know where to put their cameras when the fun starts. But I digress. Tea, anyone?
