Free maple sugar weekends
CLARYVILLE, NY Two free maple sugar weekends are planned for March 20 to 21 and March 27 to 28 at Frost Valley YMCA.
Frost Valleys Maple Weekends provide the opportunity for families to experience firsthand the wonders of maple sugar production. Activities will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, with tours of the maple sugar house every half-hour. Visitors will find out how to identify a good sugar maple tree, the tree tapping process and proper boiling techniques. There will also be information detailing traditional sapping techniques as compared to modern day practices.
Guests can attend for free during the day or enjoy the festivities as part of a day or overnight stay at Frost Valley. In addition to the maple sugaring theme, there will be a variety of other seasonal activities for overnight guests to enjoy.
Visitors are asked to register at the Frost Valley Administration Building at 200 Frost Valley Road. The sugar house is located at 1920 Frost Valley Road (Ulster County Route 47), approximately one half mile east of the Frost Valley Main Camp entrance.
