‘All That Jazz’ at Dingman Delaware

DINGMANS FERRY, PA — Bass player Don Miller and his quartet will perform at 4:00 p.m. on March 20 at the Dingman-Delaware Middle School, Rte. 739. From old-time Dixieland to swing, bebop to bossa nova, and funk to contemporary, the Don Miller Band will lead a music-filled trip from Jelly Roll Morton’s era to the 21st century.

Miller has performed every style of jazz with musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Slide Hampton, Mongo Santamaria and Clark Terry. He has also appeared with pop stars like Britney Spears, Sha Na Na and The Marvelettes.

“I love the Great American Songbook and the early compositions by the founding fathers of jazz. It is pure, honest, and simply some of the finest music ever contributed to America and the world,” said Miller. “Likewise, I love ‘new’ jazz, from bebop to modal to the compositions of Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, etc. They wrote so many gorgeous pieces of music.”

Miller’s bandmates include saxophonist and flutist Eric Person, pianist Eric Olse and percussionist Eliot Sigmund, three veterans who have jammed with the legends and won praise for their recordings.

The concert is presented by Kindred Spirits Arts Programs, a nonprofit organization that produces concerts and music education programs in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Tickets cost $15 at the door; children under 12 are admitted free.
