ELDRED, NY—A storied rivalry, an iconic retiring coach, a thrilling punch-counterpunch reversal of leads and a nail-biting final minute were all part of Eldred’s stunning 50-47 Class D semifinal win over Livingston Manor on March 1.

“It’s been a Cinderella year,” said an elated Frank Kean, after watching his team reach down for something extra to hold off Manor, propelled by Section 9 scoring leader Marissa Diescher, to earn a trip to the finals to play defending state champion John A. Coleman Catholic on March 5.

Statehood!

WEST POINT, NY—To earn a chance to vie in a state track meet, you’ve got to either be one of the top two finishers in your event out of all the schools in the section, regardless of size, or be the third-place finisher who meets the state standard time or distance in that event. In addition, the first non-qualifiers in the 300, 600, 1000 and 1500/1600 will form an intersectional relay team.
