HAROLD R. GEROW
Harold R. Gerow of White Lake, NY passed into eternal rest on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 79.
The son of the late Walter H. and Easter French Gerow, he was born on December 3, 1930 in Forestine, NY.
Harold was a lifelong resident of White Lake, NY where he built his home on the family farm. He was retired from the Village of Liberty Water Works after 35 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was an active 20-year member of the Monticello Elks Lodge #1544. He will be dearly missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Dolores Babcock Gerow at home; daughter Sharon Streit of Hurleyville, NY; brothers John Gerow and wife Peggy of Mongaup Valley, NY, Carl Gerow and wife Carol of Jeffersonville, NY and Frank Gerow of White Lake; sisters Sylvia Mattison of Rock Hill, NY and Thelma Stachow of Texas; sister-in-law Lilley Gerow of Liberty, NY; brother-in-law Ernie Babcock and wife Sally of Huguenot, NY; and grandchildren Jennifer Decker, Justin West and Jessica Hallmark and husband Max.
A brother, Walter Gerow; and daughter Kathy Decker predeceased him.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 13 at Ramsays Funeral Home, 3534 Rte. 55, Kauneonga Lake. Rev. David Coon officiated.
Burial of his ashes will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel, NY.

SYLVIA GIBBONS
Sylvia Gibbons of Honesdale, PA died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale. She was 87.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Gibbons.
Born March 8, 1922 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Vincenziuina and Corrado Rositto Calderella. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and head housekeeper at Union Hospital in Bronx until retiring.
Sylvia loved her family and all their gatherings. A fun-loving mother and grandmother, she loved a good joke, playing cards, other games and watching golf. She will be greatly missed and always loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Pat Carrier and husband Dan of Beach Lake, PA; four granddaughters and their husbands; three step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 17 at Hessling Funeral Home, Honesdale by Rev. Michael Lyle. Interment followed in St. Marys Cemetery.

KATHERINE M. HECTOR
Katherine M. Hector of Bethel, NY, owner of Hectors Inn in Bethel and a lifetime resident of the area, died February 13, 2010 at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia, PA. She was 74.
The daughter of Thomas and Lena Bassney Colo, she was born September 7, 1935 in Black Lake, NY.
Katherine was a member of St. Peters Church, Monticello. She was a family care provider for the Hudson Valley DDSO, a member of the Eagles Lodge in Middletown and of the Family Care Providers Association.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, John Jerry Hector at home; daughter Bonnie Lagoda and husband Barry, son John Hector of Bethel; daughters Donna Marie Hector and Kathy Hector, both of Bethel; son-in-law Larry Houman of Bethel; sisters Lillian Coney of Wurtsboro, NY, Mary Messinger, Margie Edelman and Theresa Coney all of Florida; grandchildren Candy Sarna and husband Puneet, Cindy Edmonds and husband Farnell, Larry Houman Jr., Caroline Houman and companion Richard Grossman, Michael Hector and wife Crystal, Jennifer Norris and husband Todd, Melanie Hector, Kelly Gerow and fiancé Dave Nober, and Kayla Aaron and husband John; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Carol Houman and Donna Lee Hector; sister Christina Kiefer; and brothers Ralph, William and Charles Colo.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, February 17, at St. Peters Church, Monticello.

WILLIAM M. KEARNEY
William M. Kearney of Monticello, NY passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at his home. He was 74.
Born on May 9, 1935 in Monticello, he was the son of the late William and Julia Murns Kearney.
He was a lifelong resident of Monticello and was self-employed as an automobile mechanic. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1961 to 1962.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Smith Kearney at home; son Randy Kearney of Newburgh, NY; daughters Debbie Pless and husband Robert of Virginia Beach, VA and Diana Coney of Monticello; stepsons Fred Kross and wife Eileen of Georgia and Joseph Kross of Arizona; brothers Floyd Buddie Kearney and wife Gail of Florida, John Kearney and wife Reathea of Florida and Richard Kearney and wife, Joan of Glen Spey, NY; sister Bridget Kearney and husband Ben of Florida; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister and three brothers.

Graveside funeral services with military honors were held on Monday, February 15 at Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Rd., Liberty. Fr. Ivan Csete officiated.
WILLIAM K. KNAPP
William K. Knapp of Jefferson, GA, formerly of Mongaup Valley, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at his home after a long illness. He was 59.
The son of the late Arthur Theodore Knapp Jr. and Ruth Kinne Knapp, he was born on January 15, 1951 in Monticello, NY.
He was a carpenter with Charles Black Construction, retiring after 35 years. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army. William was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Sons of Thunder Motorcycle Ministry. He had a strong faith in the Lord and enjoyed reaching out and ministering to others.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Knapp of Mongaup Valley; wife Jean Taylor Knapp of Jefferson, GA; brothers Arthur Knapp and wife Mary Ann of Monticello and Kenneth Knapp of Lake Huntington, NY; sisters Cathy Carnesi of Poughkeepsie, NY, Ruth Salomon and husband Carl of Monticello and Alice Witherel and husband Carl of Ferndale, NY; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 13 at Ramsays Funeral Home, Kauneonga Lake, NY. Rev. David Coon officiated. Burial was in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel, NY.
GLADYS M. MAAS
Gladys Marie Maas, a lifelong resident of Lake Huntington, NY, beloved wife of Harold C. Maas, passed away after a long illness on February 14, 2010 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 79.
She was the daughter of the late William and Anna Vetter Heib and was born in Lake Huntington on April 18, 1930.
She began working at Narrowsburg Feed and Grain in 1948 and became a co-owner of the company in 1970 until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lake Huntington.
Gladys was an avid traveler and saw the United States and the world, traveling from Anertico to Norway, from China to Africa. She found joy bringing her grandchildren on some of these trips.
Gladys is survived by her husband of 60 years; sons Gary Maas of Lake Huntington and Thomas Maas and wife Carol of Manchester, CT; grandchildren Michael Maas and wife Mirelle of Narrowsburg, NY, Heidi Roman and husband Ramon of Worchester, MA, Jessica Maas of Hartford, Laura of Boston and Julie and Erica Maas of Manchester, CT; brother William Heib Jr. of Lindenhurst, LI; and sister Doris Leschorn of South Otselic, NY.
She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Judy Maas.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, February 17 at Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. Cremation followed at Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA.

HELEN REYNOLDS
Helen Fox Reynolds, wife of the late Arthur Reynolds, passed away February 6, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Kate Kulp Fox. She was 88.
Helen was a 1938 graduate of Pottstown High School. Her first employment was at the Strand Theater. Later she worked at the soda fountain at McCourys Drug Store, as an aide at Pottstown Memorial Hospital and then as a secretary at Robinson Clay. She moved to Lackawaxen, PA and worked as an employee of Pike County.
Helen was a loving mother and a wonderful friend to all who knew and worked with her.
Helen is survived by a daughter, Sandra Reynolds Petty of Mesa, AZ; son Michael Reynolds of Boyertown, PA; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her son, Patrick; and sisters Betty Fox Wayock, Arlean Fox Rhoades and Ruth Fox.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date.
