Wayne job center opens

By TOM KANE

HONESDALE, PA — The key phrase that describes the Wayne County Employment and Training Department’s new center is “one-stop shopping.”

The center is located at 308 10th Street in Honesdale. Conveniently located next to the Wayne County Courthouse, it offers an extended program of job placement for the unemployed, job search training, a cadre of 10 new computers for exploring the local job bank, a tie-in with the state’s employment, training and placement program and a webcam for conduction of real-time interviews with employers who have jobs to fill.

The center will soon add new job training sessions and workshops.

“What is different about this new center, which we did not have in the old center, is up-to-date technological support that can be used by anyone coming in to the center to get training or find a job,” said Marie McDonnell, director of the Employment and Training Department. “We also have a dedicated parking lot immediately in front of the building,” McDonnell said.

The building also houses the Wayne County Veterans Office where veterans can receive a broad array of assistance and help through the Veterans Administration central offices in Wilkes Barre.

In order to contact the center, call the courthouse number at 570/253-5970. For the veterans group, call extension 1765, for employment and training, call extension 4150.
