Public health and gas drilling forum on February 20

An educational forum, featuring Calvin Tillman, Mayor of DISH, TX, Nancy Janyszeski, board of supervisors chair of Nockamixon Township, PA and Carol Ryan, RN, public health director of Sullivan County, NY, is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on February 20 at the Delaware Community Center in Callicoon, NY. DISH is located in the heart of the Barnett Shale gas fields. It has 11 compressor stations, three metering stations and 20 pipelines within two square miles. The Texas Department of Health and Human Services has agreed to test DISH residents in what will be the state’s first look at the impact of drilling toxins on human health. The federal Center for Disease Control has also announced that it will sample the blood and urine of DISH residents for a study of its own. Water quality seminar on February 26

The Susquehanna County League of Women Voters is presenting a series of educational seminars on the Marcellus Shale at Elk Lake School in Dimock, PA. The February 26 session will focus on water quality issues and feature Jerry Washo of Resource Environmental Management, Jim Llewellyn of Appalachia Hydrogeologic & Environmental Consulting, a legislative assistant from Senator Casey’s office, an industry spokesperson from PAmarcellus.com and Scott C.
