Golf: the newest winter sport

HAWLEY, PA — Die-hard golfers of all abilities are invited to the upcoming annual Ice Tee Golf Tournament, taking place at Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Restaurant, on Route 507 overlooking Lake Wallenpaupack. Major sponsors for the event are Ehrhardt’s Waterfront, Miller Lite & Banko Beverage and Crystal Cabin Fever.

The tournament will be held atop frozen Lake Wallenpaupack. Two challenging nine-hole courses will be created, complete with tree-lined fairways, greens, water traps, obstacles and roughs. Golfers will receive a colored golf ball plus a scorecard and map illustrating the course layout, and each participant is restricted to playing with two clubs and one putter. Tee times will begin at 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. “Greens fees” are a non-refundable donation of $15 per person in advance; $20 on the day of the event.

Golfers may also participate in the “Closest to Wally” driving contest, and the many other activities which will be held in conjunction with the main event. Prizes will be awarded to the golfers who land the closest drive to “Wally Paupack,” the snowman-mascot of the Pocono Mountains’ Lake Region. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at the restaurant at 3:00 p.m., complete with prizes, 50/50’s and giveaways.

In the event that the ice is unsafe, the tournament will take place at an alternate location at Lake Wallenpaupack. Check hawleywallenpaupackcc.com for updates.
