RONALD S. ANDREWS

Ronald S. Andrews of the Black Forest Colony, Glen Spey, NY, died Friday, February 5, 2010, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ. He was 73.

Born in Plainfield, NJ, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He completed his formal education at Wagner University, Staten Island. He was a teacher in Wayne, NJ and a teacher and guidance counselor in West Milford, NJ. He resided in Stockholm, NJ and summered in Glen Spey for many years before moving there permanently in 1997.

Mr. Andrews was a longtime member and president of the planning board and a member of the board of assessment review, both of Lumberland, NY; and an active member of the Black Forest Colony residents’ association.

He is survived by his wife Janet W. Andrews; daughters Wendy Fogler and husband John of Wall, NJ and Beth Page and husband Andrew, Califon, NJ; brother Jay K. and wife Bette Andrews, Port Charlotte, FL; and grandchildren Kendall, Connor and Eamon Fogler.

A gathering will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Olde Mill Inn Grain House, 225 Route 202, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 (800/585-4461).

JULIE ‘JUJU’ COREY

Julie “JuJu” Corey of Matamoras, PA entered into heaven on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. She was 89.

JuJu, as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, was born April 22, 1920 in Binghamton, NY, the daughter of the late Michael and the late Angela Hrusecky Hromada. She was one of 12 children.

Julie was a waitress in several local restaurants.

She is survived by daughters Joe-An Messinger of Sparrowbush, NY and Roberta Heckman of Matamoras; grandchildren Julie Strasser and husband Jack of Glen Spey, NY, Allen Quick of West Palm Beach, FL, Brett Jason Quick and wife Coleen of Pensacola, FL, Jodi Caliciotti and husband Craig of Stony Point, NY, John Heckman and wife Barbara of Port Jervis and Joseph Heckman and wife Crissy of Pasadena, MD; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Josephine Cutting and Minnie Ahrens, both of Afton, NY, and Rosemarie McBride of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband, Earl Corey, Jr.; son Earl Corey III; grandson Scott Corey; three brothers; and three sisters.

A funeral service of remembrance was held on Wednesday, February 10 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis, NY.

Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.

HELENE J. LANGHORST

Helene J. Langhorst of Honesdale, PA passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. She was 87.

The daughter of the late Jacob F. and Emma (Nickel) Murbach, she was born October 30, 1922 in Baltimore, MD. She was married to the late Walter Langhorst.

She was a retired secretary for the County of Pike and a longtime member of the Pike County Republican Committee, Pike County Historical Society, past Lackawaxen Township tax collector and past Lackawaxen Township historian with Clarence James.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Campbell of North Port, FL and Priscilla Lehmann of Greeley, PA; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services and cremation were private at the convenience of the family.


JOSEPH ‘Fred’ E. MURPHY SR

Joseph “Fred” E. Murphy Sr. of Newport, NY died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Folts Home in Herkimer, NY. He was 83.

He was born in Utica, July 20, 1926, the son of the late Augustine J. and Alice Schriner Murphy. He was married to Carolyn Ann “Mickey” Spellman Murphy on November 24, 1949 in Newport.

He was a parishioner of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, and the Holy Name Society of the church, and served on the Parish Council.

Joe was a United States Army Veteran of World War II; a 63-year member of the Newport Volunteer Fire Company; a member and past commander of West Canada Valley American Legion Post #1524; Herkimer County American Legion Commander; and Sergeant of Arms for the American Legion Department of New York. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7220 in Middleville, NY and served as Justice of the Peace for the town of Newport from 1958 to 1974, town councilman from 1974 to 1989, and town supervisor from 1990 to 1995. Joe was very committed to his community. He took great pride in his family, his community and his country.

Survivors include his wife of the Folts Home, Herkimer; 11 children, Bridget Santa Maria and husband Joe of Frankfort, NY, Patricia Murphy of Syracuse, NY, John Murphy and wife Deborah of Newport, Timothy Murphy and wife Kim of Williamsburg, VA, Joseph E. Murphy Jr. and fiancee Lynn Sullivan of Newport, Mary Lou Flansburg of Newport, Matthew Murphy and wife Debra of Jeffersonville, NY, Mark Murphy and wife Kimberly of Callicoon, NY, Catherine Mueller of Gloversville, NY, Margaret Schumacher and husband Keith of Cold Brook, NY and Michael Murphy and his wife Lisa of Strasburg, Va.; sister-in-law; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and several cousins and his extended family.

He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Murphy; daughter-in-law Katherine Newman Murphy; two grandchildren; and an infant son.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John’s Church in Newport on Saturday, February 6, 2010, and was concelebrated by Father William Gorman and Father Leo Potvin.

Spring Interment with full military honors will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Newport, NY.

ROBERT M. PELLEW SR

Robert M. Pellew Sr. of Bloomingburg, NY, a retired Mason with Allied Brick Layers Union and a lifelong resident of the area, died on Monday, February 1, 2010 in Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen, NY. He was 80.

The son of the late William and Edith DeGraw Pellew, he was born on July 4, 1929 in Middletown, NY. He was the widower of Margaret Pellew and a member of the NRA.

Survivors include his children, Brenda Bernard of Bloomingburg, Barbara Rodriguez of Middletown, Sandy Reidy of Bloomingburg and Allen Pellew of Walden, NY; brothers Richard Pellew of Bullville, NY and James Pellew of Sparrowbush, NY; sisters Marjorie Levis of Middletown, Lena Cox of Mechanicsville, NY, Loretta Mann of Tennessee and Phyllis of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Robert Pellew Jr.; brothers Raymond and William; and sister Beatrice.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 5, at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown, NY. Burial will be in Bloomingburg Cemetery, Bloomingburg, NY.


CHARLES J. SIDLOWSKI

Charles J. Sidlowski of Beach Lake, PA a retired NYC Transit employee and a longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County, Scranton, PA. He was 90.

The son of the late Adam and Sophia Sidlowski, he was born June 9, 1919 in Elizabeth, NJ.

Charles served during World War II in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Paul Hamilton. He was a Gunners Mate Third Class. He was a member of VFW, Honesdale, PA and went with them to visit the WWII Monument in Washington, DC. He was a rifle instructor for the Boy Scouts and a member of the NRA. He was a member of St. Bernard R.C. Church in Beach Lake and attended St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg, NY.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Dzirko Sidlowski; son Thomas Sidlowski of Beach Lake; daughter Karen Ujlaky and husband George of Babylon, NY; grandson Brett Ujlaky of Babylon; and brother John Sidlowski and wife Stella of West Palm Beach, FL.

Charles is predeceased by a sister, Delores; and brothers Joe and Edward.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg. Father William Scully O.F.M. officiated.

Burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY.

DORA E. TURK

Dora E. Turk of Union Springs, NY died Friday, February 5, 2010 in Auburn Memorial Hospital. She was 96.

Mrs. Turk was born in Callicoon, NY, the daughter of the late William and Blanche Hust Kappes. She has resided in the Union Springs area since 1968.

Mrs. Turk was a graduate of the New Paltz Normal School and taught elementary school in Sullivan County for several years. She was a member of the farm bureau and the Hortonville Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed knitting and gardening.

Surviving are daughters Beverly J. Turk and Marilyn D. Schenck and husband David, all of Union Springs; son James F. Turk and wife Elaine of Opatka, FL; grandchildren Jeremy A. Schenck, Matthew S. Schenck, Daniel D. Schenck and Heather E. Schenck; step grandson Colton Hall; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the Hortonville Cemetary, Hortonville, NY.


ANATOLY VOLVICH

Anatoly Volvich of Shohola, PA, formerly of Glen Spey, NY, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Belle Reve in Milford, PA. He was 72.

He was born December 16, 1937 in Kiev, Ukraine, the son of the late Ivan and the late Katia Kusenko Volvich. Anatoly was married for 50 years to Lyudmila Lashkevich.

Anatoly was a self-employed film maker who produced many documentaries. During his retirement, he was employed at Wal-Mart in Westfall Township, PA. He was a member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Glen Spey.

A family statement reads: “Papa was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.”

Survivors include his wife at home; son Roman Volvich of Shohola; sisters-in-law Zina and Yana Lashkevich of Kiev, Ukraine; and nephew Sergei Atkin and wife, Helen of New York City.

He is predeceased by his sister, Valia Volvich; and brother-in-law Boris Lashkevich.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 9, with a Liturgy Mass in St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Glen Spey, with V. Rev. Nestor Kowal officiating.

Burial will be at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
