Wayne Library Alliance celebrates 10 years

HONESDALE, PA — Wayne County boasts seven library branches: Honesdale, Lakewood, Pleasant Mount, Bethany, Hawley, Lake/Salem and Newfoundland, each of them autonomous but united.

The Wayne County Commissioners showed their appreciation by honoring the seven, called the Wayne Library Alliance, with a proclamation on January 28.

Over 10 years, the alliance raised more than $778,000 in grants with annual circulation rising from 125,835 items checked out in 1999 to 255,073 in 2009, an over 100 percent growth rate. The countywide system provides a single library card for use at any of the seven libraries with a combined catalog for real-time access to over 100,000 items owned in the county, and a delivery system to enable sharing of those resources.
