Valentine’s Day Dance

HAWLEY, PA — The One Child Too Many A Brendan Kizer Foundation, Inc. will hold a Valentine’s Day Dance at the Wallenpaupack Area High School Cafeteria from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13. There will be a DJ and Valentine’s goodies. Admission costs $6 per person, $9 per couple. Proceeds will go to benefit families who have children with cancer. For more information call 570/390-4187.

Pick out a Valentine’s gift, munch some brunch

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — There will be a Valentine’s Weekend jewelry sale and brunch at the Flour Power Bakery & Café, 87 DeBruce Road, on Saturday, February 13 and Sunday, February 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A portion of all proceeds will go to Catskill Mountainkeeper. Jewelry available will be both vintage and modern, with exhibiting artists including Joanie Nicole Schafler, Karin Houland, Theo Johnson, Jill Wiener and Madame Fortuna. Valentine’s Day breakfast and reflection

BEACH LAKE, PA — In its ongoing Intersession 2010, exploring spirituality through arts, music and film, the Upper Delaware will host a Re-imagining Valentine’s Day community breakfast on February 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Berlin Township Community Center.

With stations for fresh French toast and make-your-own omelets, the fellowship will explore expressions of love that speak to our greatest desires for peace, connection, meaning and understanding.

Romantic classic at the cinema

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance will kick off its winter film series on Sunday, February 14 with “Jules and Jim,” a romantic drama by the great French director Francois Truffaut, a leading light of the “New Wave” that transformed European film-making. in the ‘50s and ‘60s. The film will be shown at 7:00 p.m. at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 32 Commercial Street.

Shocking and innovative when it first came out in 1962, the film chronicles a tragic love affair between Catherine and the two friends who have fallen under her spell. Historian David Thomson summarizes the film’s premise as a “passionate triangle in which three people are trapped, all in love with all, all reluctant to hurt the others.”

Valentine cabaret

HURLEYVILLE, NY — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop will perform a weekend of Valentine Cabaret “Dessert Theatre” on Saturday, February 13 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sullivan County Museum. Admission includes the show and an assortment of desserts, and is pay what you can.
