Fly fishing center holds Fly Fest and IceCapades

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum (CFFCM), in cooperation with Catskill Flies and ClassicTrout.com, will present the third annual Fly Fest and the first ever IceCapades on Saturday, February 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Fly Fest is a gathering of more than 50 fly tyers who assemble annually in the CFFCM to tic flies and minimize cabin fever and mid-winter blues. Both professional and amateur tyers share their latest patterns, swap stories and tie flies for the upcoming season. Visitors are welcome and enjoy the warmth of the day inside. Volunteer coordinators for this event are JB Martin, Jack Ganz and “Catskill John” Bonasera.

For those enjoying the cold and the excitement of ice fishing, the CFFCM will host the first IceCapades. IceCapades is a full-fledged ice fishing derby on the CFFCM pond. Although traditional ice fishing techniques will be in play, there will be an emphasis on fly fishing through the ice and fly casting accuracy contests to get it in the hole. Participants will be encouraged to donate $5 to the spring pond stocking fund for children’s fishing educational programs, on-pond demonstrations and for those physically challenged. Kids are admitted free.

A member will be on hand to drill holes and a hand ice auger will be available for those who want to drill their own. Volunteer coordinators for this event are Skip Alford, Jan Weid, and Mike Canazon.
