SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY—“These are the times that try men’s souls,” noted Thomas Paine in the winter in 1776. Though apropos to the ongoing human tragedy in Haiti, its context here doesn’t reference such life and death struggles, rather the aspirations of local basketball athletes that find themselves playing games that impact their basketball lives as the season advances toward February.

Who is in the forefront on the ski slopes and indoor track?

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY—Baby it’s cold outside and steaming inside, as some athletes took to the ski slopes while others sweated it out on the indoor track. Monticello’s boys ski team captured first place at Holiday Mountain on January 20. Colin Bunce took third (33.58), Ryan Heins was fourth (34.62) and Brian Tedaldi was fifth (3.73). Sullivan West’s Drew Billard was seventh overall (36.58).
