ShopRite tractor stuck at Pond Eddy Bridge

POND EDDY, NY — A large tractor trailer from ShopRite crossed the Pond Eddy bridge and got stuck on the Pennsylvania side on January 25. The bridge has a posted weight limit of seven tons.

PennDOT officials and several local fire companies arrived on the scene the following morning to assess the damage and tow the truck away. PennDot and local firemen did not know why such a large truck had crossed the fragile bridge.

“I don’t see any evident damage but I’m not finished my inspection,” said a PennDOT inspector.

“It’s not going to be easy but I think we can do it,” said Rich Prehams of Lord’s Valley Towing about removing the truck.

The bridge was reopened in the afternoon.
