‘Shifting Perspectives’

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Art Society will present “Shifting Perspectives,” a new exhibition featuring the work of artists Christine Gedeon and Joel Edwards, at the CAS Arts Center, 48 Main Street from February 5 through March 14. There will be an artists’ talk on Saturday, February 6 at 1:00 p.m., followed by an opening reception with light refreshments from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The exhibition explores the concept of progression through line and the invention of new pictorial spaces. From a similar starting point that is precise and hard-edged, both artists arrive at work that creates a visual balance between organic and graphic, spontaneous and planned. Gedeon interprets topographical landscapes using a sewing machine, fabric and paint on raw canvas through an improvisational approach. Edwards, a Livingston Manor resident, applies and removes paint to create a textured surface within an orderly abstract, geometric composition.

Gallery hours are Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The CAS Arts Center is wheelchair accessible.
